Ice Formations

It certainly has been awhile since I posted here!! I was driving my daughter to town the other day and went along the lake. I was so inspired by what I saw there that I came back and grabbed my camera and went for a walk. Here's mother nature at her winter's best - ok SPRING but looks like winter!

Injured Deer in Willow Beach

We had quite a stir here yesterday, which unfortunately, didn't end the way we had hoped. HERE's the story of this poor stranded doe ..

My son and his gf came home yesterday afternoon and asked if I had heard about the deer on the ice, which of course I hadn't. We headed over to where she was about 4:45 and when we got there, she was standing on this little piece of ice ...

After about half hour or so, the officers said they were sending an air boat in to see if they could coax her towards shore and asked that we all please move so she would feel safe if they could get her this way ...

She jumped in the frigid waters and they honestly did everything they could ...

At this point, she was able to hoist herself up again and we could see she had a very nasty wound on her side - there was talk she had been hit - but they turned the boat off so she could rest for a bit ...

Here she went back in the water, so they kept trying to get her to head for shore, but it just wasn't working out as planned ...

After what seemed like a very long time, was likely about half hour? It seemed like she actually swam to the boat, where we couldn't see and an officer came and very quietly told the parents that due to her injuries, they were going to have to put her down and if we had children, we may want to take them away at that point.

It was a very hard thing to understand and comprehend - where did she come from? Was she hit? What happened to her? These were all questions from the kids. Why can't they give her a chance? But my answer was that the rescuers did all they could and only they could see how bad her injuries were once they were able to get to her and unfortunately, she was just unable to be saved and it was a sad ending to a long and very valiant fight.

Thank you to those who tried to help her ...

Furry Friends and a YUMMY Dish!

Some furry friends kept our attention throughout the past wknd and one was missing a tail!! Quite comical to watch!

Heather, our host, is an amazing cook and this was Sunday's breakfast
"Sweet Decadent Apple French Toast"
And it was delicious!!! I am hoping to get my hands on the recipe to try here at home

Winter Wonderland

This morning we woke to a winter wonderland and it was so pretty that I couldn't resist grabbing my camera for a couple quick pics before leaving for work. Good thing because it was all gone when I came home!

Horse & Buggy's

Here's some more photo's from our wknd trip to St. Jacob's. The first 2 show a horse and buggy on the far side of the river. Unfortunately, I didn't have my 500 lens, it would have worked better for these photo's, BUT, I think it still looks pretty neat. The last 2 are looking through the front window of our little cottage.
