Nature In My Own Backyard

Funny story about these ducks. We hadn't had rain for a bit, so we had the sprinkler running in the front yard. I happened to walk by the front door and couldn't figure out what on earth I was looking at!!! When I looked again, here were these 2 gosslings playing in the sprinkler!! I called my husband and he said "Those belong to someone, they're domestic". So, we watched them play for a bit (unfortunately, I didn't get good photo's) and then we went out to catch them. We couldn't leave them as they wouldn't likely survive. We finally caught them and put them in a dog crate while I went for a drive to see if I could find the owners. I lucked out BIG time when I went to our corner store and he said to try *****'s house and so I did and they were his. Apparently, he had found mom and 2 baby's dead in the back field/forest. Someone had run them over. So these 2 were running scared. He was glad to have them home and I was glad to find their home!!

Every spring/summer we have baby squirrel's in our front tree and this yr, no exception! Are these 2 not super cute?? I know, they can be destructive, but we've been lucky. They tend to leave the nest and away they go!

Birds Of A Feather .. It's Feeding Time!

Hi all!! It's been awhile since I've posted some pics, but believe me, it's not lack of having my camera with me, it's lack of time!! With fall coming in, I seem to have a little more time to play. In August, hubby and kid's bought me a new lens for my b-day! A Sigma 150-500mm and I am in love!! I sat on my front step for about an hour and just started snapping as my finches were coming in and out. Here's some of the shots I was able to get .. enjoy!!

Finding Shelter From The Rain

Last night we had a major amount of rainfall and when Keith and I went out after it stopped, the ditches were overflowing, there was flooded areas on ppl's yards and he happened to look up the road and there was a family of skunks rummaging around. We figured they got flooded out from their home. He followed them, from a distance lol, and by the time I was able to grab my camera, this is the only shot I was willing to get close enough to get, but I think it's cute!! They're all in a row heading for home ...

Joys Of Living In The "Country"

Although we don't live in the true "country" we consider where we live to be very much like it. We're close to the water on one side, yet at the end of our dead end street is a forest area. So we have the best of both worlds and you never know what you'll see! 2 summers ago there were 2 deer running down the middle of our rd and of course by the time I realized what I was actually seeing, they were gone - yesterday morning, this little guy was hanging around the bird feeder while his/her friend was in our backyard trying to figure out how to get through our fence!! I admit, I'm not a morning person, but this time of the yr makes me think different - the birds, the wildlife - it's pretty neat!

Spring Babies!

Yesterday, late afternoon, we were heading out and I saw some commotion in our front tree and had to have a peek!! Look what was peeking back at me!! How cute are these spring babes??? Now lets just hope they remain good little squirrels and not get destructive! She had a litter (I think it's a litter?) last year as well and was so fun to watch mommy teaching her babes how to do everything. Now we get to observe her again!

White Tailed Deer

While out about about yesterday, I noticed these deer in the field down from my place, so I raced home and grabbed my camera and headed back out. This is a first for me with my nikon camera...not to mention the yucky weather. I was trying to get off the road for an oncoming car and slipped in the ditch...what to do but laugh, right?? Anyway, I think they turned out ok!
