Out & About In My Front Yard

I was sitting out the front with my camera and just started snapping off some photo's, trying to remember some of the techniques I learned last yr at the Henry's course I took. Here's just a couple pics from my front yard.

Nature In My Own Backyard

Funny story about these ducks. We hadn't had rain for a bit, so we had the sprinkler running in the front yard. I happened to walk by the front door and couldn't figure out what on earth I was looking at!!! When I looked again, here were these 2 gosslings playing in the sprinkler!! I called my husband and he said "Those belong to someone, they're domestic". So, we watched them play for a bit (unfortunately, I didn't get good photo's) and then we went out to catch them. We couldn't leave them as they wouldn't likely survive. We finally caught them and put them in a dog crate while I went for a drive to see if I could find the owners. I lucked out BIG time when I went to our corner store and he said to try *****'s house and so I did and they were his. Apparently, he had found mom and 2 baby's dead in the back field/forest. Someone had run them over. So these 2 were running scared. He was glad to have them home and I was glad to find their home!!

Every spring/summer we have baby squirrel's in our front tree and this yr, no exception! Are these 2 not super cute?? I know, they can be destructive, but we've been lucky. They tend to leave the nest and away they go!

Birds Of A Feather .. It's Feeding Time!

Hi all!! It's been awhile since I've posted some pics, but believe me, it's not lack of having my camera with me, it's lack of time!! With fall coming in, I seem to have a little more time to play. In August, hubby and kid's bought me a new lens for my b-day! A Sigma 150-500mm and I am in love!! I sat on my front step for about an hour and just started snapping as my finches were coming in and out. Here's some of the shots I was able to get .. enjoy!!

Purple Finches at Algonquin

Here's some purple finches that we seen at Algonquin. They're really pretty birds. I did a reflection of the one above in my PSE program. If you haven't seen it, click HERE to see my first moose sighting!

After The Rain

Here's a couple pics I took the other day after it rained. You could see the mist coming off the roof of our neighbors garage and the others are just, as you can see, chickadee's enjoying the feeder. I took a course at Henry's a couple weeks ago, so just starting to play with shutter speeds, apertures etc.

Turkey Vultures

Hubby came home with dinner tonight and told me "Hurry up, grab your camera, let's go!" So I did, not having ANY idea what he was talking about and where we were going. On his way home, he had seen 3 huge birds on the hydro poles and thought they were possibly hawks and he said one was bigger than the others. Once we went back they had flown into the trees and we could only find 2 and they turned out to be turkey vultures. Unfortunately, I was cold and a little shaky, so the pics are a little blurry, but I think they turned out ok!

Spring Time Shrubs

I was trying to capture the suns rays on our shrubs. I don't think I captured it exactly as it was, but the pics turned out nice. The sun was just making it glisten..was so nice to see. It's been a long, cold winter!

Spring Melt Down

These are just some fun photo's I took while out and about a couple days ago. Everything is starting to melt and I thought this could be a fun photo opp! It's at our neighbors and it's running off the roof in a steady stream of water. Let me know what you think!

White Tailed Deer

While out about about yesterday, I noticed these deer in the field down from my place, so I raced home and grabbed my camera and headed back out. This is a first for me with my nikon camera...not to mention the yucky weather. I was trying to get off the road for an oncoming car and slipped in the ditch...what to do but laugh, right?? Anyway, I think they turned out ok!

Flowers and a Monarch

I took these last summer on a walk in the back forest. Can't wait to see these things again, it's been a long and cold winter!

Nature On Lake Simcoe - Fall of 2009

Fall of 2009, it was a very rainy morning when I took drove my nephew to his bus stop, so as we were coming back along the lake, I saw these geese, so ran home and got my camera for some good action shots. I think they turned out perfect!

Playing In The Rain Drops

Whenever it rains, the rain pours off our neighbors roof and my daughter Ashleigh actually said "Mommy, this would be a perfect photo opp!" So off I went to get my camera and these are a couple photo's I took. I absolutely love the sepia look.
